Day by day
A rhythm rather than a timetable. Days start early, middays are slow, evenings are long.
Arrive in Johannesburg and settle into your hotel. Take the afternoon slowly after your journey, perhaps enjoying the views from your hotel or heading out for your first taste of the city’s vibrant dining scene. Tonight is about arriving, settling in and beginning your South African story.
Today, discover a more personal side of Johannesburg. Explore its history, heritage and culture, visit Soweto or spend time discovering the city’s neighbourhoods and dining scene. The day can be tailored around your interests, creating an introduction to South Africa that feels personal rather than prescribed.
Fly towards KwaZulu-Natal and transfer into Phinda Private Game Reserve. As the landscape changes, so does the rhythm of the journey. Settle into camp before heading out for your first afternoon safari, watching the bush come alive as the sun begins to soften.
Wake to the sounds of the African bush and head out into Phinda’s diverse landscapes. Each safari unfolds differently, with opportunities to encounter big game, predators and an extraordinary variety of smaller wildlife. Return to camp during the heat of the day before venturing out again in the afternoon.
Continue west towards the Sabi Sands. After settling into your new lodge, head out for your first safari in this legendary wildlife region. The landscape feels familiar yet distinctly different — riverine vegetation, open clearings and the promise of close encounters with Africa’s most iconic animals.
Begin the day with an early morning safari as the bush awakens. The Sabi Sands is particularly renowned for exceptional wildlife viewing and leopard encounters. Spend the afternoon at leisure before returning to the wilderness for another game drive as golden light settles across the reserve.
Your second full day allows you to settle completely into safari life. Follow wildlife through the reserve, enjoy a leisurely lunch at camp and perhaps spend time simply watching the bush from your private deck. End the day with a sundowner beneath an open African sky.
Leave the bush behind and fly south towards Cape Town. The contrast is immediate — from open savannah to mountains and ocean. Settle into your hotel and enjoy an evening at leisure, perhaps over a memorable dinner overlooking the city or Atlantic coastline.
Discover Cape Town at your own pace. Ascend Table Mountain for panoramic views across the city and coastline, explore the vibrant neighbourhoods and waterfront, or simply slow down and enjoy the city’s extraordinary food and wine scene.
Travel along the dramatic Cape Peninsula, where mountains meet the Atlantic and the landscape changes around every bend. Discover coastal viewpoints, beaches and the famous penguin colony before continuing through the Cape’s southern landscapes. Return to Cape Town for your final evening.
Enjoy a final breakfast overlooking the city before your onward journey. Whether you choose to extend into the Winelands, add another night in Cape Town or continue elsewhere in Africa, your South African story doesn’t have to end here.
