Follow the herds from the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara, staying in a mobile camp that moves with the migration and finishing in a private conservancy with walking and night drives.

The original safari
Kenya is where the word safari was born, and it still sets the standard: the Maasai Mara at migration time, elephant beneath Kilimanjaro at Amboseli, and the wild northern frontier of Laikipia and Samburu.
We plan Kenya around rhythm rather than checklists. A few slow days in a private conservancy bordering the Mara, where night drives and walking are permitted and vehicles are few, do more for a first safari than a week of chasing sightings.
From there the country opens up. Laikipia for rhino and community-owned conservancies, Samburu for the dry-country species you will see nowhere else, and the coast at Lamu or Watamu when you are ready to trade dust for the Indian Ocean.
Where to go
Big cats, the Great Migration from July to October, and private conservancies with a fraction of the vehicles.
Elephant families crossing dry lake beds beneath Kilimanjaro. Best at first light.
Rhino conservation, community conservancies, camel walks and the special five of the north.
Lamu’s Swahili old town and the barefoot beaches of Watamu to close a journey gently.
Our approach
Three nights is the minimum we recommend anywhere. It takes a day to arrive, a day to settle, and only then does the bush start to show itself. In Kenya we typically pair two or three camps chosen for contrast, not for ticking regions off a map.
